Public Art That reflects Place

Public art is not disconnected from immediate complexities in a site. Meaningful public art is inspired by unique elements to a place and community that inspires the research, design, and deliverables, through and through.

Each work reflects local identity by telling stories about the specific environment, histories, and communities in a beautiful and engaging visual display.

Durable & Eco-Friendly

In our climate crisis, public artists can do their part by using sustainably sourced materials and eco-friendly fabrication methods.

Public art can be climate-positive—meaning, it removes more carbon from the air than it emits.

When making paper, I use archival, natural fiber material and chemical-free fabrication methods—paper that can last 500 years into the future.

This is ecologically responsible work. Art that draws inspiration from local plants, waterways, and histories. Art that reflect the place and people.

Work with May to Get:

  • An initial appointment with the artist to determine your wish list and budget.

  • A custom, proprietary proposal for your site and/or community.

  • An artist who organizes mockups, budget, timelines and easy to follow manner to ensure that the artwork will match the installation site and fulfill the project goals.

  • Considerate research into places, communities, ecologies, histories, and hydrologies—and also responsible collection of local plants for fibers.

  • Phone and email support for the times you’ll need instant input.

  • Permissions and permits facilitation and coordination.

  • Coordination between multiple key stakeholders in local governments, organizations, and businesses.

  • Overseeing artwork transportation, shipping, and installation. There’s always behind-the-scenes coordination needed for installing public art.

  • Collaboration on optional public-facing events such as artist talks.
